This free installation at the National Justice Museum features a glossary produced by members of LGBTQ+ youth groups in England through a project at the University of Nottingham. The guide – which can be read at nott.ac/lgbtqwords – explains the language used by many young LGBTQ+ people to describe their lives and their identities. The installation can be found in the museum’s Project Lab, a free space where visitors can pick up a copy of the glossary, find out more about the project, and learn key LGBTQ+ words in British Sign Language.

During your visit, you can also suggest words that you might have included if you were compiling your own glossary of LGBTQ+ words; contributions made by visitors to the Project Lab will be added to a digital archive produced by the University of Nottingham.
