Nana Arthole and Marilyn Sane are on a mission to help the drag artists of tomorrow to werk their thing. Armed with their ferocious knowledge of strutting the Nottingham stages over the ages, they’re turning their attention to getting your drag growing by baring all.

Grow Your Drag is an opportunity for emerging drag queens, kings, and things to learn from Nana and Marilyn, two of Nottingham’s finest (and oldest) drag queens. This opportunity includes a day-long workshop with Nana and Marilyn and being part of a showcase night as part of Queer Up Duck! putting experience into practice in front of a welcoming audience.

This event is supported by The Spencer Trust and Nottingham City Council.

Workshop

Saturday 10 October 10am-5pm at The Pride Hub (Sneinton Market-ish)

You’ll work alongside Nana and Marilyn as well as the other emerging artists to explore your drag and how you can elevate it. Across the day you’ll get to learn key techniques, look at different aspects of your drag, learn from your peers and of course ask Nana and Marilyn everything they know about drag.

The day will include:

  • Drag Persona exploration 
  • Makeup Q&A and skill sharing
  • Introduction Wig styling 101
  • Costuming on a budget crash course 
  • Stage Presence & Performing Workshop

 

By the end of the day you’ll leave with:

  • A more fully realised idea of your drag persona
  • New methods, skills, and practical tips to apply to your artistry 
  • The beginnings of a new stage performance

 

The workshop will be hosted in a fully accessible space.

Who is this opportunity for?

  • Drag Artists who consider themselves to be emerging. You might have performed a bunch of times and are looking to hone your craft, or maybe you’re still developing your drag persona.


How much does it cost?

  • We’re fortunate to have secured some funding from The Spencer Trust and Nottingham City Council to be able to offer this opportunity for free!


How do I apply?

  • We have a simple application form to fill out. 


Do I have to be available for the Showcase Performance?

  • We want artists to be able to put what they’ve learnt into practice, so being part of the Showcase Performance is essential.


What will be provided?

  • Our expert drag queens!
  • Refreshments
  • A fee for the performance


How will the Showcase Performance work?

  • Hosted by Nana and Marilyn, each artist will have a slot to perform a drag act.
